The Be List is a new feature to the Be Unlimited blog.  On The Be List, which makes its debut today, you will find recommendations on what to read, what to listen to, what to see on television or at the movies, and even what to wear.  If it’s on The Be List, it should be on your list.

The first item on The Be List is a film that’s twenty-six years-old, yet still relevant today. It’s a teen classic that I remember watching at a time in my life when everything about it seemed so real, even too real.  Anyone born after the 1980’s probably hasn’t seen this excellent film. But I am hoping that a new audience discovers it and experiences its impact.

Lucas was released in 1986 and stars Corey Haim, Kerri Green, Charlie Sheen, Courtney Thorne-Smith and Winona Ryder. Rated PG-13, Lucas is a comedy-drama about a socially awkward fourteen year old boy who experiences heartbreak for the first time when his two best friends — Cappie, an older-brother figure, and Maggie, a new girl at school with whom he is secretly in love — fall for each other.

Don’t let the romance story line scare you away (guys). This movie has something for everyone — especially those just starting high school or still trying to find their place in middle school. It’s very funny at times, it’s very sad at times. It’s about real teens, real life, and real issues that are relevant today, like bullying in school. Give Lucas a chance. You will be glad that you did.
