I love words, always have.  I like the sound of certain words.  I like the look of others.

As a kid, I used to read the dictionary, searching for new words and discovering their meanings.  As an adult, I still do that.  Some things never change.

Today’s lesson is about what words can do.  Words themselves are more than the letters that create them.  Words can change us.  Words can lift us up.  Words can inspire us.  Take the words be and unlimited.  When I put them together to create Be Unlimited, something happened for me.  I had a new mindset of what was possible for myself and others.

I am always on the lookout for quotes.  Whether they be from famous thinkers or not-so-famous ones, quotes can be the words that motivate us to take another step, that inspire us to try again, or to improve our belief in ourselves.  Here’s what I believe: some times quotes can make the difference between whether we reach our highest potential or not.

Some quotes are easy to understand, with meanings right on the surface.  Other quotes require deeper thought.  There are times when I have found myself thinking about the meaning of a certain quote longer than expected.  Then it comes to me.  I understand it, and have a whole new way of looking at something.  It’s always worth the effort.

Quotes cover the walls of my house.  I’ve taped them on doors, on walls, on kitchen cabinets, on the refrigerator, just about every place I could think of.  I surround myself with quotes because I like the mindset they help me to maintain.

I want to share some quotes that I’ve discovered along the way.  I hope that one or all of them speak to you in some way as you aim to reach your highest potential.

“All the things we achieve are the things we have first of all imagined.” — David Malouf

“It’s not what you look at that matters, it’s what you see.” — Henry David Thoreau

“I believe that we are fundamentally the same and have the same basic potential.” — His Holiness The Dalai Lama

“Fall seven times, stand up eight.” — Japanese Proverb

“Stop thinking about life and start living.” — Paulo Coelho

“It isn’t enough to think outside the box.  Thinking is passive.  Get used to acting outside the box.” — Tim Ferriss

“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.”  — John Quincy Adams

“What’s going on in the inside shows on the outside.” — E. Nightingale

“Even a mistake may turn out to be the one thing necessary to a worthwhile achievement.” — Henry Ford

“The purpose of life is to matter, to count, to have it make some difference that we have lived at all.”  — Leo Rosten

Those are just a few quotes that might spark something in you: an idea, an action, a change.  Be on the lookout for more quotes.  Find them in books, on billboards, in song lyrics, on bumper stickers.  You never know where your source of inspiration will come from.  Stay open to the possibilities of what you can discover in the world and in yourself.

Be better.  Be inspired.  Be unlimited.

  1. I just came across your blog. You are correct, words are very powerful. Teens especially, need to learn the power of words and the impact. Being a mother of 5 kids (two of them teens) I find your blog informative and inspirational. Thank you.
