Bullying is a serious issue that affects the lives of many people. It can cause lasting harm. Bullying is an issue that Be Unlimited will address frequently. From providing coping skills for targets to offering insight into why people bully, you can expect to stay in the know about the subject. Be Unlimited will also provide information for bullies on ways to change their behavior and how to recognize that they have a problem.
As a target (someone being bullied), getting through a day of school or even walking down a street in your neighborhood can be torture. Being called names. Being humiliated. Being threatened. Being physically attacked. Being in a constant state of fear. No one deserves to live this way.
Sometimes the targets of bullying don’t even know how they became targets. All too often, those targets develop the mindset that what’s happening to them is their fault. They start to believe that there is something wrong with them.
As a target of bullying myself that lasted for years in elementary and middle school, I know how that feels. It is something that I’ve never forgotten. But it’s also something that I’ve taken from and now use to help others. You will learn more about my experiences with bullying and how I overcame them in a future blog.
Today’s lesson is more of a message. This message goes out to all the targets of bullying. That might be you or it could be someone you know (if that’s the case, please pass it on).
Here’s the message (I hope it’s heard loud and clear): despite every hurtful word that has been said to you and the hurtful things that have been done to you, there is nothing wrong with you.
The bullying is not your fault. You can rise above where you are now and you will. Be Unlimited is here to help. Focus on the potential that’s inside you. Focus on the skills, the talents, and the abilities that you have. Focus on how this world is going to be different, how it’s going to be improved, simply because you are in it. Focus on what makes you uniquely you.
This may not be a quick fix, but remember, a new mindset is something you have to build over time. It takes more than one day to do it. Every time you rebound from an incident of bullying, it gets stronger. You get stronger, too. If you’re reading this right now, that’s already happening.
